James R. Thompson Jr.
Full Description
James R. Thompson Jr., served as NASA's Deputy Administrator from
July 6, 1989, to November 8, 1991.
Before assuming the position of Deputy Administrator, Mr.
Thompson was director of Marshall Space Flight Center where he
spent many years working in a variety of positions, including
associate director for engineering and as manager of the Space
Shuttle Main Engine project. Mr. Thompson also served on the task
force that investigated the cause of the Challenger accident.
